Ahead of the Surrey Youth Games this summer, Elmbridge council is offering free training sessions for any child who lives or goes to school in the borough.

From March, children will be able to take part in a wide variety of sports including badminton, basketball, boccia, girls cricket, football, hockey, judo, netball, squash, swimming, tag rugby and tennis all for free.

These are called 'Give it a Go!' sessions.

A Christmas bazaar will be taking place at Ashley primary school, in Ashley Road, on Saturday, December 5.

Starting at 12 noon, there will be a tombola, a lucky dip, a raffle, toy and book stalls as well as Santa's grotto.

Elmbridge Youth Theatre is looking to recruit new members both on stage and in its technical team.

Months of nerves were met with screams of joy at Rydens school on Thursday (27) as students finally got to open their GCSE results.

The school, in Hersham Road, Hersham, saw students open their results after months nail biting in anticipation for this day.

Jess Gray, 16, of Rydens Road, Walton got four A*'s and seven A's, meaning she received the highest grades in the school.

She said: "It is a relief. I have been fine most of the summer, but I felt sick this morning."

apprn2.JPGElmbridge council will be doing a Sir Alan Sugar and saying you're hired to two students for its apprentice scheme, starting in November.

The programme will see two business studies students spending a year in the community support services and housing division.

Applicants should be aged between 16 and 19 and live in the borough.

They will be paid £100 a week while they continue to study a national vocational qualification in Business studies at Brooklands college, in Heath Road, Weybridge.

A Brooklands college student has been rewarded for his hard work by being given a bursary from Walton Rotary Club.

Daniel Deluce, 17, who is a student at the college in Heath Road, Weybridge, has been given a helping hand as he has not missed a single minute of his level one catering course at the college this past year.

Elmbridge youngsters aged between 11 and 19 are being encouraged to take part in an 'Elmbridge has talent competition'.

Although the final is not until Saturday, October 24, youth organisations and schools are being encouraged to enter up to three acts, who would perform at Reed's School, in Sandy Lane, Cobham.

The winner, who can showcase any skill, will receive £1000 for their school or organisation.

Youngsters from Elmbridge put pen to paper during the half-term week at The Heart in Walton as part of Explore Learning's story writing competition.

Visitors to the Explore Learning store in New Zealand Avenue, could enjoy free educational activities with a 'Story Wheel,' where they could get down to planning and creating an exciting story.

The Youth Engagement Scheme (YES) returned to Walton Fire Station earlier this month as the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service's initiative gets set to expand across the county.

The first of its kind in Surrey, YES involves twelve young people, aged 14 - 16, spending a week at Walton Fire Station, in Hersham Road, where they experience hands-on training about the essentials of being a firefighter.
