youth2.jpgWalton North's new beat bobby has come up with an innovative way to get teenagers off the streets - by teaching them how to make music.

PC Melanie Sefton has spent the last month taking six 14-15 year olds to Molesey Youth Centre, in Ray Road, West Molesey, where the teenagers have been using a £45,000 recording studio to make a song.

Officers from the Walton Central Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) visited Ashley Primary School in Walton-on-Thames last week and gave pupils the chance to help keep their bikes secure.

Police Constable Ian Harding, the Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Walton Central, and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Toni Rowland held two sessions where youngsters had the opportunity to have their bikes marked.

More than 20 pupils, from Year Five up to Year Eight, brought their bicycles into school on Wednesday 8 October and officers were able to scribe the child's postcode on to the frame of the bicycle.

Cannabis-plant-2.jpgA Walton man has been cautioned for cultivating cannabis with a street value of more than £200 in his home after police were tipped-off.

One large cannabis plant and 34 smaller ones were taken from a home in Shaw Drive, Walton, on Saturday October 11 between 3.30pm and 5pm.

A Walton man will stand trial at the Old Bailey on Monday October 20 charged with the murder of a gay man at Cowey Sale.

Five men including three from Cobham and one from Walton were charged with affray by British Transport Police on Wednesday (1) following a fight on a train, which resulted in a passenger being kicked unconscious.

Spate of bike thefts

Boys as young as 12 were arrested for stealing bicycles from Walton train station on Friday night.

The three boys, aged between 11 and 12 and all from Walton were arrested at 8pm, and later bailed for a string of 20 bike thefts from the area around Walton train station.

Twin awards for hero PC

PC-Gillham.jpgA police officer who grabbed a suicidal man's arms to prevent him leaping off Walton Bridge has received a commendation for his heroism.

PC Graham Gillham was presented with a Chief Constable's Commendation and the Royal Humane Society Testimonial on Parchment at a ceremony in Guildford on August 13.

BMX bandits attempt to rob girl

waltonstation.jpgA girl aged 16 was the victim of an attempted robbery when three males on BMX bicycles stopped her in Rydens Road, Walton.

The gang demanded she hand over a mobile phone and cash and claimed one of them was carrying a knife, although no weapon was produced during the incident.

Walton gets new police surgery

A new police surgery is being launched in Walton to give residents the chance to speak to their local safer neighbourhood team.

kumar-sivakumaran-2-12.jpgYobs have wreaked havoc in a flat above a Walton newsagent's shop by leaving taps running and breaking gas pipes.

Intruders broke into Walton News in St Johns Drive at 10.30pm on Tuesday August 19 while the owner, Kumar Sivakumaran, was at his family home in Hayes.

They broke gas and water pipes, causing the lights to stop working, ruining stock in the shop, and leaving the carpet sodden.
