The first candidate to announce they are running for the Esher and Walton parliamentary constituency is Esher resident Mark Ashley-Hacker.

The Esher and Walton Conservative Association are inviting all registered voters to a special meeting on Saturday, November 21 to have their say on who will replace retiring Esher and Walton MP, Ian Taylor.

Residents from all political parties are invited to Sandown Park, in Portsmouth Road, Esher, and will be given the chance to grill up to six short listed candidates, before voting on who will represent the Tories at the next general election.

Elmbridge council is holding a consultation for parents in the borough to find out families views on holiday activities for children.

The consultations will be available to collect from libraries, the Xcel leisure complex, in Waterside Drive, Walton, children's centres, schools and the council's website, at www.elmbridge.gov.uk

The council want to know if families are happy with holiday activities, if there is one holiday scheme provider that children love most and what families do with their free time during the holidays.

Two Walton estate agents who will be running the first Virgin London Marathon in April 2010 have all ready surpassed the minimum amount of money they wanted to raise for a children's charity.

Elmbridge borough has reached its 500th Neighbourhood Watch, with residents in Burwood Road, Hersham becoming the latest to introduce the scheme.

The news of the latest borough Neighbourhood Watch, comes at a time when the Association of Chief Police Officers reports that areas with a watch scheme suffer from 79% less incidents of crime than the rest of the UK.

The objectives of a Neighbourhood Watch are to prevent anti-social behaviour and crime, reduce the fear of crime and to improve the quality of life for tenants and residents.

Newsreader Nicholas Owen is helping Elmbridge council launch its Distraction Burglary Week, which starts on Monday, September 28 at the Weybridge Centre, at 10.30am.

The renowned journalist will be launching the week, which is aimed to help raise awareness of distraction burglary and cold calling, at the centre in Churchfield Road, which will be followed by the trickster play showing how people trick their way into homes.

Throughout the week, displays and information cards will be put up and useful telephone numbers will be handed out at the retired people's centres throughout the borough.

Stunning new looks for Autumn will be shown as models take to a plinth at The Heart Shopping Centre on Saturday September 19 and campaigners will be marching around the centre for Cancer Research.

Army cadets from Walton are back home after spending two weeks of action at one of the largest youth camps in the UK.

A car wash is being held at Walton fire station this Saturday (19) to raise money for the firefighters charity.

Starting at 10am and finishing at 2pm, residents are being invited down to the station in Hersham Road, and donating what they can for a car or van wash.

All proceeds will go to the charity, which helps injured service men and women.

Elmbridge council is looking for feedback from residents and businesses as part of its gambling policy consultation which started on Monday (7) and lasts until Thursday, October 15.

The consultation comes as the council has to renew its gambling policy every three years in support of government objectives.

These include preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, ensuring that it is carried out in a fair and open way and protecting children from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
