Chaos as injured man found on train roof
Walton train station is closed this morning after a man was found alive but bloodied on the roof a train.
Commuters on platform 1 were shocked to see a 20-year-old man on top of the 7.32am Woking to Waterloo train as it pulled into Walton about 8am.
The station was immediately closed and commuters were asked to leave the train and the platform before emergency services arrived.
A passenger on the Waterloo-bound train, said: "The police aren't telling us anything but people are saying the man was train surfing. I don't know why it needs eight police cars and three ambulances if it's just that.
"We were told to get off the train and then told to get off the platform. When I got off the train two people from the station were also on the roof."
A South West Trains spokesman confirmed said someone at Weybridge Train Station had reported seeing the man so the train was stopped.
He said: "We have no idea how he got there. He is still alive. Passengers who would normally travel to London via Walton, Hersham and Esher train stations are advised to go to Weybridge."
Witness Joe Dicarlo, 31, from Walton, was waiting on platform one to get the train to London. He said: "The train pulled into the station about 8am and everyone noticed this man on top of the train. He was covered in blood.
"The guard told everyone to leave the station. Everyone was calm and did what they were told. They then closed the station. I waited for awhile then had to go back home."
The station remains closed.
The injured man was taken St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey suffering from head injuries.
A British Transport Police spokesman added: Officers are currently conducting further inquiries to try to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. It is currently being treated as unexplained."
Anyone with any information should call police on 0800 405 040.
