Grovelands Infant School has been treated to time out of the classroom when they were shown round the site of what will become a children's centre at the Terrace Road school.

The building, which is due to be complete by September, will offer facilities to mums and children, including morning and afternoon clubs, advice for new and expectant mothers and provide a place for people socialise.

Entertainment store Zavvi in Walton will remain open despite other stores across the UK closing down.

Zavvi, one of the only places left in the town where residents can buy music and DVD's, went into administration on November 27 after it was crippled by the collapse of Woolworths' Entertainment UK wholesaling division.

A charity concert put on by a student at Rydens School has raised over £700 for charity.
