grovelands-building-28.jpgGrovelands Infant School has been treated to time out of the classroom when they were shown round the site of what will become a children's centre at the Terrace Road school.

The building, which is due to be complete by September, will offer facilities to mums and children, including morning and afternoon clubs, advice for new and expectant mothers and provide a place for people socialise.

Walton Zavvi store remains open

Entertainment store Zavvi in Walton will remain open despite other stores across the UK closing down.

Zavvi, one of the only places left in the town where residents can buy music and DVD's, went into administration on November 27 after it was crippled by the collapse of Woolworths' Entertainment UK wholesaling division.

A charity concert put on by a student at Rydens School has raised over £700 for charity.

Tyler Carpenter, 15, organised the concert for Wednesday January 21 as an opportunity to raise money for children's hospice charity Shooting Star.

Three men were arrested on Friday January 16 after police suspected they were stealing a forklift truck in Eriswell Road, Burwood Park.

Officers were carrying out proactive patrols in Walton when they noticed a suspicious vehicle at around 6pm.

A boiler room of a private swimming pool complex burst into flames on Tuesday January 20 in Albury Road, Burwood Park, Walton.

The pool house was attached to the two-story home and was well alight when firefighters arrived about 2.20pm.

A 24-YEAR-old man from Esher who fell 50ft from a window in Walton on Saturday (17) escaped with only a broken arm.

The man fell from a fourth floor window at Thamesview House, in Felix Road, about 12.25am.

doris-carr-100yr-old-1-21.jpgA sense of humour and 'moderation in everything' is the secret of longevity for one Walton woman who celebrated her 100th birthday on January 16.

Doris Carr, who lives in the Walton-on-Thames Charity sheltered housing, Mayfield in Hersham Road, got together with friends, trustees and staff for a birthday tea and Champagne toast.

Voluntary Action Elmbridge is looking for new volunteers.

VAE distribute volunteers to any community, faith or voluntary service across Elmbridge.

At any one time there are 450 volunteer opportunities, and they are looking for new recruits.

Volunteers are expected to be honest, eager and organised.

A free dance session is being held for people with learning disabilities.

The StopGAP dance company are inviting people to join them for a workshop at the Riverhouse, in Manor Road, Walton.

Being held on Saturday January 24, it will run from 11.00am until 1.00pm.
