Patients set to be warm this winter with patchwork quilts!

Posted by Princess Alice on Nov 20, 08 02:11 PM in Charity/voluntary

Last year Day Hospice patients at the Princess Alice Hospice were very please to receive gifts of beautiful patchwork quilts courtesy of Creative Quilting, Bridge Road, East Molesey. This year the Hospice is once again receiving a very welcome gift of over 30 quilts, made during 'QUILTATHON'.

'Quiltathon' is an extravaganza of teaching and quilt making. Over four days, more than fifty people of varying ages get together to have fun, socialise and create a range of quilts. All teachers provide their time free of charge. Creative Quilting and everyone who took part in the sewing sessions generously donated the fabric.

The ward patients will be even warmer and cosier this winter as Ward Manager Julia Lucioni was literally covered in quilts following a presentation from Quilt-a-thon Coordinator Valerie Nesbitt and Isabelle Saulet, Owner of Creative Quilting on Wednesday 5 November.

Isabelle Saulet, said
"We had people in their twenties taking part, and also a lady in her eighties; it was great to raise awareness about the charity to a wide range of people. The younger people who are made aware of the Hospice are very important; they are the people who will help to ensure its long term success".

Julia Lucioni, said
"I am very happy to accept this wonderful donation and I know that all of our patients will be happy to receive a quilt. Simple home comforts like the quilts, can make a huge difference to our patients. I want to extend a thank you from everyone at the Hospice to everyone who took part in 'Quiltathon'. The Hospice relies on the generosity of the community and is grateful for all financial help, gifts in kind and support at our events".

Creative Quilting will be carrying on their support of the charity through its involvement at the 'Late Night Christmas Shopping' event at Bridge Road, Hampton Court Village on Thursday 27 November. Visitors will be able to enjoy promotional offers, speciality food and wine and festive bell ringers, all local shops will be open until 8.30pm. There will be street collections to benefit the Princess Alice Hospice.
